    UPDATED Tournament Rules and Policies

Playing Rules: All players will abide by the USGA Rules of Golf.  This is a gentleman's game and as players it is up to us to abide by these rules.  For more information please go to the USGA website. www.usga.org

For all tournaments this year we will be using a players Course Handicap instead of using the Player's Index. This is to level the field across the board. A Player's Index with the Slope is applied to the Course Handicap formula to get the Course Handicap.  If you would like to know your Course Handicap, a calculator is available online on the posting website.

The members will divided into two groups, Class "A" and Class "B".   Class "A" for indexes from 0.0 to 12.4, and Class "B" for indexes 12.5 and above.  Members are encouraged to enter their scores in non-tournament games into the SCGA Handicap Database, whenever possible. All scorecards must be turned in for auditing by the Handicap Committee. All Tournament scores will be posted to SCGA. A member without Internet access may turn in score cards to the Handicap Chairperson for posting.  Scores can not be phoned in, a scorecard is needed.

A minimum of two players are required to award the Class "B" trophy and points.  If only one player from Class "B" plays in a tournament, that player will automatically moves up to Class "A" and eligible for the Class "A" (Low Net) trophy and points.

For all Members and Guests that don't have an established SCGA handicap, the Handicaps will be determined by The Callaway Scoring system formula for calculating the Handicap.  New members are encouraged to establish a Handicap Index.  The Current Handicaps are listed under the Current Handicap Section on the SCGA Website.

Guest players with a verifiable SCGA or USGA handicap index, who are non-Members of Pagasa Golf Club may use their handicap index, as long as they present proof before the beginning of the Tournament.  Guests are encouraged to join Pagasa Golf Club at any time.  Points will be awarded to Pagasa Golf Club Members only.  Winning guests are entitled to Closest to the Pin Awards and Low Gross Guest Trophy only. A minimum 3  playing guests are required to be awarded the Low Gross Guest Trophy.

    Equitable Stroke Control (ESC)

All posted scores will be adjust in accordance to SCGA Tournament rules and posted to the SCGA site.  The adjusted gross score is for posting purposes only, it will not affect the actual scores for the Tournament.

Equitable Stroke Control (ESC) is the downward adjustment of individual hole scores for handicap purposes, in order to make handicaps more representative of a player’s potential ability, and sets a maximum number that a player can post on any hole depending on the player’s course handicap. ESC is used only when a player’s actual or most likely score exceeds his maximum number based on the following table. Check your course handicap on the ESC chart in order to see how many strokes you are allowed to take per hole.
For example, if after the calculations your handicap is 34, due to ESC you can take a maximum of 9 strokes per hole. During your round, you take an 11 on a par-5 hole, so when ESC is applied, you would post a 9 for that hole. Therefore, you deduct two strokes from your total 18-hole score. If your gross score was 100, then your adjusted gross score is 98, and that is the score you would post.

    EQUITABLE STROKE CONTROL

18 hole course handicap, Maximum strokes allowed on any hole:

9 or less = Double Bogey
    10 through 19 = 7 maximum
    20 through 29 = 8 maximum
    30 through 39 = 9 maximum
    40 and above = 10 maximum

Note: It is your Course Handicap NOT your Current Index.

    Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q: Why is my posted score different from my Tournament Score?
A: The adjusted gross score is for posting purposes only, it does not affect the actual scores for the Tournament. READ EQUITABLE STROKE CONTROL (ESC)

Q: Why is my Current Index not my Handicap?
A: Since we are an affiliate club, with no home course. Your Handicap will vary from Course to Course depending on the Slope of the course. As the Slope increase your Handicap increases as well. Your Index will always be lower than your Handicap.

Q: How is my Index calculated?
A: An Index is the average of differentials of a your last 10 best scores of the last 20 rounds, plus any eligible tournament score. You must have at least a minimum of 5 scores before a Index number is assigned. A Handicap Differential is the difference between a your adjusted gross score and the USGA Course Rating of the course on which the score was made, multiplied by 113, then divided by the Slope Rating from the tees played and rounded to the nearest tenth, e.g., 12.8.

Q: How do I post scores?
A: Three Ways; Posting computer at the golf course, Internet (SCGA website posting page), give score cards to Handicap Chairperson. You can NOT give scores over the phone.  All posted scores are Away, since we have no home course.

Q: What if I make a mistake posting at a Golf Course or on SCGA website?
A: Tell your Handicap Chairperson to correct the mistake. Do not call SCGA, they cannot correct any changes without your Chairperson's authorization. SCGA will tell you to contact your Chairperson.

Q: What if I have questions regarding my current Index or posting?
A: Ask your Handicap Chairman or go to the SCGA website.
